May 6, 2021 GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers used the first of their sixth-round picks on Wisconsin offensive tackle Cole Van Lanen. Here’s a look at his five-year career with the Badgers. Cole Van Lanen’s Stats with the Badgers Van Lanen started 18 games at left tackle during his final two seasons, including 13 games in 2019, when he was second-team all-Big Ten, and five games in 2020, when he was first-team all-conference despite missing two games due to an undisclosed injury. In all, the native of nearby Suamico played in 45 games with 19 starts. While he started only once in 2018, he played 560 snaps and paved the way for Jonathan Taylor’s 2,000-yard rushing season. In 2019, he helped power another 2,000-yard season by Taylor. Along with the on-the-field accolades, he was a four-time all-Big Ten selection in academics. ....
May 1, 2021 5:26 PM The Packers didnât have to place a long distance call to inform their sixth round draft choice of their selection, it was a local call, to former University of Wisconsin offensive tackle Cole Van Lanen.  The 6-5, 310 pound two year starter for the Badgers at left tackle was at his home in Suamico, just minutes north of Lambeau Field and blocks from his high school alma mater Bay Port. Van Lanen became the first area athlete to be drafted by the Packers since another former Badger, West High School quarterback Bud Keyes was taken in the 10th round in 1988. ....
Berger Could Return For Badgers Bowl Game A decision by the Big Ten Conference to reduce the number of days players must sit out after contracting COVID-19 to 17 from 21 could put Wisconsin Badgers freshman running back Jalen Berger in the picture to play in the December 30th Duke’s Mayo Bowl game against Wake Forest. Berger has played in just three games this season but still leads Wisconsin in rushing with 267 yards while averaging 5.9 yards a carry. Berger tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 11, the day before Wisconsin played Iowa. Both he and Nakia Watson missed last week’s game against Minnesota, as did wide receivers Kendrick Pryor and Danny Davis, as well as left tackle Cole Van Lanen. Just how many of those players will be available against Wake Forest remains to be seen. ....
