Congratulations to Ken and Karen Libby as they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Feb. 5.
Ken and Karen met at Chippewa Valley High School and were married shortly after Ken joined the Air Force. Early in their marriage, they had the unique opportunity to see some of the world as they lived in Kansas, Arkansas, and Taiwan. After his service in the military, Ken and his bride moved back to their hometown to start a family. They raised three wonderful children, Crystalle, Kevin and Elise. Their family grew to include two caring sons-in-law Kirk and Mike, a loving daughter-in-law April, and six adoring grandchildren, Carter, Katie, Keegan, Colten, Rose and Walter. ....

The COVID-19 ax fell on another local event Friday, as the 2021 Annual Ramps and Rail Festival was canceled due to health concerns surrounding large public gatherings.
This is the second year in a row that the Ramps and Rails Festival has been canceled because of COVID-19, making it one of the first local events to have suffered that fate twice. Let’s hope it doesn’t become a long list.
Already in 2021, the pandemic has forced the canceling of Fasnacht in Helvetia, and the Maple Syrup Festival in Pickens was canceled for the second straight year.
In 2020, the list of annual events that were canceled was long, including such major traditional crowdpleasers as the Mountain State Forest Festival, the West Virginia Strawberry Festival, Coalton Days and all the local county fairs. ....

Molalla High School s class of 2020 reached 91% on-time graduation, up more than 7 points
While schools across the state have struggled to evolve amid the COVID-19 crisis, some good news came from the Oregon Department of Education recently. Molalla High School has reached an all-time high graduation rate.
Molalla s class of 2020 reached a 91% on-time graduation rate, up significantly from 83.8% in 2019 and 79.5% in 2018.
This has been an extraordinarily difficult year, and we are pleased to be able to join the community in celebrating the success of our students, their families and our school district staff with the release of this data, said Mark Lucht, school board chair. These students are the building blocks of our community s future, and their achievements highlight the resolve Molalla has displayed in response to the challenges we have faced. ....
