Tributes are pouring in for former Duncan Mayor Mike Coleman, who passed away at home Tuesday morning at the age of 78.
His family announced his passing, saying he spent his final days at home peacefully surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Duncan Mayor Michelle Staples paid tribute on social media, posting that “through the tough times and good ones, you never lost sight of the goodness in life, the love of family and dedication to community.”
Mayor Staples says the flags at City Hall will be lowered in honour of his passing. ....

New Hospital to be a Place of Healing and Reconciliation

The province has provided a progress update on planning for the new hospital in the Cowichan Valley, which is now anticipated to open in 2026.
In the opening remarks at today’s provincial update, Councillor Albie Charlie of Cowichan Tribes says the new hospital will be a place of healing, and no longer a place of fear after the racism of the past.
“In the past we experienced racism, we had to come through the back door. We were set aside.”
He says Cowichan Tribes, and Indigenous people in general, have had negative experiences with hospitals and institutions. ....
