A new crossing of Mission Creek, upgrades to the fish and turtle ponds and many other changes are in the works for Mission Creek Regional Park in Kelowna.
This is one of, if not the, most popular regional parks in the Central Okanagan.
A 20-year plan for future development of the park is going to the board of the Central Okanagan Regional District tomorrow, July 8. It recommends dozens of changes but one of the most dramatic is a new foot bridge over the Mission Creek at Gerstmar Road.
Right now, the trail on the north side of Mission Creek has to divert onto Creekside Road for about a block. ....

Hikes of the Week: Whether You’re a History Geek or Just Need to Disappear Into the Woods for a Few Hours, There’s Something for Every Hiker Over the Bridge in Vancouver The Couve’s reputation as a sleepy suburb is a boon for outdoor recreationalists in particular.
(Michelle Harris)
Think what you want about Vancouver, Wash.
For most on this side of the Columbia, our neighbor to the north is little more than another Portland bedroom community. But the Couve s reputation as a sleepy suburb is a boon for outdoor recreationalists in particular. There s plenty to explore in and around the city if you re looking for an escape into nature without traveling too far from home and much of it is far less crowded than Portland s perma-packed old reliables. ....

Still, when that Sunday morning arrived in 2018, Newton was shocked when her usual crew of about 15 had mushroomed to include about 70 Black women. There s a first time for everything, she thought, as they broke into smaller groups and headed toward the nature trail. What a sight they were, she recalls, ....
