PORTLAND, Ore., June 14, 2021 /PRNewswire/  The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation today announced $550,000 in grants to 81 nonprofits and school programs throughout Oregon. These grants were made possible through CommuniCare, a year-long leadership program that gives Oregon high school students an opportunity to learn about issues affecting their communities to facilitate a deeper commitment to social activism.

Graduation season begins for Alachua County-area high schools


A year after COVID-19 meant high school graduations marked by an unusual drive-thru racetrack ceremony and yards full of signs celebrating individual graduates, this season’s graduation ceremonies will be back to normal ― sort of.
For the public schools, next month’s ceremonies will be held at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center and the Phillips Center on the University of Florida campus.
Each student is allowed four guest tickets. Face masks are required and a 3-foot distancing rule will be in place.
For family members who want to watch but can’t physically be there, livestreaming the graduation will be an option as well. The livestream is being sponsored by Florida Credit Union. Details for the livestream have not yet been released. There are no vaccination requirements.  ....

Concerns raised about barriers to booking vaccination for seniors in Vancouver's Chinatown area


 
VANCOUVER
Concerns are being raised about barriers faced by a vulnerable population in Vancouver when it comes to getting their COVID-19 vaccine.
Community advocates fear elderly people living in Chinatown and the surrounding area may end up missing out if they aren’t able to easily make an appointment, or get to a clinic.
Michael Tan with the Vancouver Chinatown Legacy Stewardship Group said seniors face barriers when it comes to language, technology and mobility, and added the closest clinic is in Olympic Village at Creekside Community Centre.
“For many of these seniors that have mobility issues, they’re frail, they’re on these little walkers. It might as well be on the moon,” he said. “We’re very worried about them not receiving their vaccinations in a timely and safe way.” ....

Many residents of British Columbia s South Coast woke up to rain on Sunday after expecting an overnight snow dump, but Environment Canada warns snow is still in the forecast.
