Greenock street robbery accused man set for jury trial


A MAN charged with forcing open and stealing from cars at Greenock Golf Club then going on an alleged eight-vehicle vandalism spree is set for a sheriff court jury trial.
Jamie Hill, 28, is accused of helping himself to whisky and golf clubs from a BMW 1 Series M Sport and Volvo V40.
Prosecutors say he later robbed a woman after allegedly threatening her in a Larkfield street.
Hill, of Davey Street, is also charged with vandalising the windscreens of numerous cars in August 2019.
He has offered guilty pleas to a number of charges through lawyer David Tod but continues to deny robbing a woman of cash in the street. ....

Disabled man's relief as flooding saga finally fixed after eight years


A FLOODING saga which has turned a disabled Greenock man s garden into a swamp has finally been resolved.
Water had been pouring down onto Michael Doherty s Grieve Road rear garden for no fewer eight years and cascading over a wall onto paving slabs at his door.
Mr Doherty, 48, had repeatedly complained to Oak Tree Housing Association to no avail and then contacted Councillor Tommy McVey, who got in touch with the association and adjacent landowners Greenock Golf Club.
When Cllr McVey had no success he turned to our sister title The Greenock 
Telegraph to highlight the problem.
Now the golf club, although not accepting responsibility, has taken remedial action to divert water away from a drain at the back of Michael s property. ....

Flooding farce turns man's back garden into a bog


A VULNERABLE man has hit out at housing bosses for not dealing with a huge flooding problem which has turned his back garden into a bog.
Michael Doherty says water is pouring down onto his drying green and cascading over a wall onto slabs at the rear of his home.
The 48-year-old, who has disabilities, lives in the former family home in Grieve Road and has been battling with Oak Tree Housing Association for many years over the problem.
The water is flowing down from Greenock Golf Club land and a local councillor has now stepped in, saying he is shocked by the way the saga has been handled. ....
