Crookston National Guard unit to be deployed to Middle East; other area units could deploy later in the year
The 141 soldiers in the 2nd Battalion 136th Infantry Combined Arms Battalion will leave from Crookston on March 16, said Capt. Charles Cox, commander of the Crookston Army National Guard battalion.

CROOKSTON – Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry in Crookston are part of a task force of more than 1,000 Minnesota Army National Guard members deploying for a mission to the Middle East.
Minnesota Army National Guard units from Sauk Centre, St. Cloud, East St. Paul, Detroit Lakes, Cottage Grove and Camp Ripley also are part of the task force, whose mission is to support Operation Spartan Shield. The mission is expected to last about a year. ....

Terri Heggie, executive director of the Crookston Area Chamber of Commerce for the past three years, submitted her letter of resignation to her board of directors Thursday morning, which the board accepted.
Here s her letter:
“What an honor it has been to serve as the Crookston Area Chamber & CVB Executive Director. This morning at our Full Board of Director my letter of resignation was accepted. Over the past three years I’ve enjoyed so many heartwarming, professional relationships. Serving alongside a dedicated and supportive board of directors has been an absolute pleasure.
The list of highlights is much too long for this message so I will share only a few. The incredible coming together and raising of hope during the outbreak of COVID-19, Terri On the Town with the little red car, the creation of the Women’s Leadership Network, the presence of 340 attendees at the 2018 annual Chamber celebration and awards night, our new logo, the community ....

Crookston Visitors Bureau gets influx of funds to launch new website, visitors guide, etc.
The money was in the budget as of June 12, when the Crookston Chamber terminated its agreement with the previous CVB; effort to reconcile Chamber/previous CVB books nixed due to lack of documentation

   The new Crookston Visitors Bureau has been allocated approximately $22,700 to continue moving forward on various initiatives such as the launch of its own website and production of a new digital and printed visitors’ guide. The City of Crookston has moved the money to the CVB, which was in the previous Crookston Convention & Visitors Bureau account held by its previous fiscal host, the Crookston Area Chamber of Commerce. The funds have sort of been in limbo since June 12, 2020, when the Chamber terminated its agreement with the previous CVB. ....

    On behalf of the Polk County Salvation Army, we would like to again say thank you to our friends and supporters who have given donations and their time to the Salvation Army.     
    The Christmas Kettle Campaign is the county’s Salvation Army’s most vital fundraiser accounting for nearly 75% of its annual fund raising totals. It is vital because we depend on this support to fund year-round programs. Also, we would like to put out a SPECIAL THANKS to our local United Way in Crookston for their financial support assistance. ....
