Granada Trustees Receive Update on Packing Plant : The Prowers Journal


 
Curtis Tempel and Clint States provided updated information for the Granada Trustees on their plans to construct a packing plant west of the community, beginning sometime later this year. Tempel laid out his initial plans to the Trustees last year and secured the property adjacent to Camp Amache, west of Granada, off Highway 50.
Tempel said, “We’ve been working through the past year and we’ve gotten up to a lot of final stages at this point to move the project forward.” Some of the next steps involve getting a determination of the ground composition where a pad for the 15,000 square foot building will be located. Some other factors include the location for a fire hydrant, placement of a water line, a sewer line and probably putting electrical conduit at least five feet underground. Consolidated Mail Center Officially Opens in Granada : The Prowers Journal


 
 
Members of the Granada Trustees, local school board and Prowers County Commissioners were on hand for a streaming and live-time ribbon cutting ceremony today for the Consolidated Return Mail Center in Granada.

Commissioner Wendy Buxton-Andrade provided opening remarks at the outset of the January 14
th event, “This day and journey started a year ago at a CCI conference. Lanie, Prowers County Human Service Director, received a proposal from the State requesting a business model, plan, and proposal be developed by a county to form the Statewide Consolidated Returned Mail Center. Never shy to a challenge, and the opportunity to grow our county and most important our economy, I just knew Prowers County was the perfect location for this new business venture so I started making calls to my fellow Commissioners. ....

Trustees Working to Develop New Housing in Granada 
Lengthy discussion was held by the Granada Trustees during their July 8th meeting on a need for surveyed roads and property in town based on potential future business developments in the community as well as a small housing project.    The Trustees held a workshop on July 6th with a developer as well as SECED Executive Director, Stephanie Gonzales on the project which provides tax rebates for housing developers and an opportunity for participating residents to eventually transition from renters to owners after a period of years.  The houses discussed would be in the $150,000 to $180,000 bracket, ranging from 900 to 1,400 square feet with add-on capability.  The developer requested that there be one central property owner, Granada, to handle the transactions.  The Trustees are seeking available properties in the community to present to the developers by early August. ....

Changes in Prowers County Commodity Distribution for April 14th
Due to the impact of COVID-19 in our communities, the Commodity Foods Distribution will still be held at 8am on Tuesday, April 14th, but with some safeguards for everyone’s health and protection.
Darren Glover, TEFAP Coordinator for Prowers County has stated that in April, all sites will have drive-up distribution only. NO Walk-Ups will be allowed due to social distancing requirements. Each individual will not be required to sign for their boxes, but must still show a picture ID beforehand. This includes the Senior Box at the Lamar Distribution; a picture ID will be required. ....
