Donated garden sheds were constructed by college’s Introduction to Construction students
Two Cranbrook organizations, the Cranbrook Food Bank and Community Connections (organizers of the Community Garden) received the gift of a garden shed, thanks to students in College of the Rockies’ Introduction to Construction program.
“I want to commend College of the Rockies for their meaningful gift in support of Cranbrook Food Bank and Community Connections Society of Southeast BC,” said Nicholas Simons, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. “It’s a fine example of community service and will go a long way to support food security in the region.” ....

Over $50k granted as CFKR grows endowment funds
The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) has recently completed its largest ever annual granting program, allocating a total of $53,300.19 to 41 community projects/initiatives.
In addition, a total of $32,730.77 has been re-invested in the principals of 17 endowment funds, to grow future granting.
“The Community Foundation is thrilled to support the excellent work of these local non-profit organizations that contribute so much to each of our communities, especially during the current pandemic,” stated Lynnette Wray, CFKR Executive Director.
The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) provided 2021 grants to a wide range of community projects and programs. All grant applications were reviewed by CFKR’s local volunteer committees, with granting decisions ratified by the CFKR Board. ....

CFKR grants $50,000 to eight local projects
The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) is proud to have partnered with Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) and the Government of Canada to deliver the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF). ECSF’s goal is to provide support to charities and non-profit organizations that are serving vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ECSF’s Round 2 launched on October 5, 2020. With Round 2, CFKR has invested an additional $50,000 through the ECSF towards local charities and other qualified donees that are supporting populations experiencing heightened vulnerability due to COVID-19.
CFKR is very pleased to announce that ECSF has invested in the following Round 2 projects, with four in the Elk Valley and four in Cranbrook: ....
