The Kane Community Living Centers in Allegheny County will resume family visitations for patients, Director Dennis Biondo announced Monday. Visitation has been restricted since early in the pandemic. But, last week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released updated guidance for nursing home visitation, prompting many states and individual facilities to reopen to family members, with restrictions. The no visitor policy went into place on March 13, 2020. Kane is run by the county, and has facilities in Ross, Scott, Glen Hazel and McKeesport. ....

But tracking distribution to long-term care facilities is a challenge. “Allotments are being determined by the CDC and Operation Warp Speed,” state Health Secretary Rachel Levine said during a virtual news briefing Thursday. “Particularly for this Walgreens/CVS/long-term care mission, they determine specifically where they’re going to go every week when they get their allotment from the federal government. So we have no way of putting that up on a website.” ....

Residents and staff in Allegheny County’s Kane Community Living Centers will begin receiving vaccinations next week, officials said Tuesday. The Kane Centers at Ross and Glen Hazel are the first county facilities scheduled to receive doses of vaccine through a federal partnership with CVS Health. Their two-day clinics are tentatively scheduled for Jan. 4-6. The Scott and McKeesport facilities are to receive doses next Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10. “The vaccine is going to be good for everyone – patients, staff and family,” said Chief Medical Officer Mario Fatigati. “For us, we’re hopeful it’s going to usher in a new era.” ....
