Glen Helen seeks power plant demolition
When the Glen Helen Association purchased the 1,125-acre Glen Helen Nature Preserve in 2020 from Antioch College, as part of the deal the association assumed responsibility for a shuttered power plant owned by the college. The plant, constructed in 1929, is located across the street from the campus on the edge of the Glen. It is now a hazardous site that includes a large oil tank full of unused diesel fuel, coal ash residue and friable asbestos all of which pose a serious threat to the natural resources of the Glen and to village groundwater, according to Glen Helen Association Director Nick Boutis in a recent interview. ....

More than a month after the final closing on the sale of the former firehouse on Corry Street, one financial issue remains unresolved.

As part of the sale process, the YSDC in July purchased the option to sell for a nominal $1.
There is a question, however, about who is responsible for the utility fees after the YSDC announced the pending sale to Chappelle in December until the final closing in March. The YSDC thinks the Township is still responsible; the Township disagrees. ....

Village Council— Outdoor drinking considered • The Yellow Springs News

Imagine grabbing a beer from a local restaurant, walking with it in hand on the sidewalk downtown and stopping by some local shops, all while sipping away.
That image could become reality if the Village creates a DORA, or designated outdoor refreshment area, in downtown Yellow Springs.
Village Council briefly discussed the idea during the new business portion of its meeting on April 19. No legislation was considered or votes taken.
In a DORA, those 21 and older can legally consume alcohol on public property. Retail establishments can also allow customers to bring in alcoholic beverages, but the drinks can’t be taken from one restaurant or bar to another. ....
