Truman prom: Bucks County student plans dance after it is cancelled

Shannon Prendergast dreamed of getting dolled up for her senior prom since she was a little girl, twirling around in her favorite dresses.
However, to the 18-year-old’s disappointment, the pandemic shifted Harry S. Truman High School’s traditional prom plans. The Bristol Township school instead held a SeniorFest event in May.
“It wasn t fair that we missed out,” Shannon said days before she and her class graduated Thursday night. “We’d already missed out on so much throughout the year.”
The letdown didn’t stop her. Determined to create the prom experience she d waited years for, Shannon began reaching out to the community for help finding a potential venue. ....

Calls for compassion and shining a light in darkness at Swindon's Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony

CALLS for compassion and moving stories of those who escaped genocide filled this year s Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony.
The restrictions caused by the pandemic did not stop the annual remembrance event that has been held in Swindon for 20 years from going ahead.
Though this year, councillors, MPs, community representatives and Swindonians gathered in a Zoom meeting rather than in person.
Matt Holland organised the virtual ceremony, which began with the midday bells of the town centre clock echoing through the speakers of the 51 people in attendance and a performance from cellist Debbie Jennings.
He spoke of this year s theme, being a light in the darkness, which encourages people to help others who face prejudice and persecution, and resist the spread of misinformation and divisive talk of us and them . ....
