NASA Perseverance rover takes its first drive on Mars

Now NASA engineers and scientists are plotting Perseverance s route to an ancient river delta.
NASA s Perseverance rover left its footprints on Mars on Thursday after going for its first drive. The jaunt proved the vehicle can make its way around the red planet.
Since Perseverance landed in Mars Jezero Crater on February 18, it has been calibrating its instruments and upgrading software. In this initial drive, Perseverance moved about 13 feet (4 meters) from its landing spot, made a 150-degree turn to the left, and backed up about 8 feet (2.5 meters) a routine that it executed perfectly, according to NASA engineer Anais Zarifian. ....

Q: In a recent column, you mentioned that a vapor storage charcoal canister can flood by overfilling your gas tank. If you squeeze in extra fuel over a long period of time, how would you know if the canister is actually flooded and not operating correctly?
R.M., Elk Grove Village, Ill.
A: The check engine light will come on. The evaporative emissions control system routinely performs self-tests. If it fails for any reason, including the vapor canister, it gets reported.
Q: Chicago, like most of the northern U.S., has experienced bitter cold and snowy weather. I have a small space heater that keeps my garage temps in the 55-60 F range. Made from 316L stainless steel, this watch comes with a massive design, there’s no doubt about it. The manufacturer doesn’t reveal the actual weight of the watch, but it looks like it’s super-heavy, especially given that almost everything, including the case and the band, is made from steel.
The watch comes with sapphire glass to prevent any serious damage, including scratches and light hits, as well as with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. It has a 39mm diameter, but the case certainly makes it look a lot bigger, so there’s a chance it wouldn’t look that cool on small wrists. ....
