New Delhi: The risk of delayed acute complications after SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients who did not need to be hospitalised is very low, a new study published in the Lancet journal said.
However, persistent symptoms such as breathing issues and migraines in these patients may lead to increased visits to general practitioners or outpatient clinics in the six months following infection, the researchers found.
The team from University of Southern Denmark assessed the risk of initiating medication and receiving a hospital diagnosis for a new condition by comparing individuals who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 with individuals who had a negative test during the first wave of the pandemic in Denmark. ....

Lucknow: The death of a woman from Thailand in Lucknow has created a stir in Uttar Pradesh political circles, with allegations and counter-allegations flying thick regarding her purpose of visit to the state amid the Covid pandemic. The woman died of Covid in a Lucknow hospital and was cremated by the police, with no one coming forward to claim her body.
While Samajwadi Party’s national spokesperson I.P. Singh has alleged that it was Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Seth’s son who had called the woman to Lucknow, the latter has written to Lucknow Police Commissioner D.K. Thakur requesting him to act against Singh and others for “spreading rumours on social media and maligning his family’s image”. ....

New Delhi: India, South Africa and many other developing countries will have to wait long before they can start manufacturing “copycat” versions of some of the world’s leading Covid-19 vaccines, even if the World Trade Organization (WTO) agrees to waive, temporarily, the intellectual property and patent rights on them.
While over 120 nations have supported the proposal, all 164 member countries of the WTO are yet to begin text-based negotiations on the matter in Geneva.
The US, after much dilly-dallying, Wednesday said it will “support” the move proposed by India and South Africa in October 2020, but commencing the negotiations will not be easy, sources told ThePrint. ....

New Delhi: Tathagata Roy, the former governor of Tripura and Meghalaya, Tuesday slammed BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh for handing out tickets to film and TV actors who eventually failed to win votes, listing it as a possible reason for the BJP’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
Slamming the BJP’s election management team for giving electoral tickets to “film and TV actors who never had anything to do with politics”, he called several actors-turned-BJP nominees such as Parno Mitra, Srabanti Chatterjee and Payel Sarkar “politically stupid” after they lost from Baranagar, Behala West and Behala East constituencies, respectively. ....
