Sadly, the Lehigh Valley said goodbye to one of its tallest and most beloved residents.
The Lehigh Valley Zoo announced on Monday that Murphy, the 20-year-old Masai giraffe that was a resident of the zoo since 2017, died. The zoo’s Facebook page posted the announcement on Monday afternoon. “An iconic resident of the zoo, Murphy brought smiles to guests and staff through his lovable personality, charismatic presence and adorable ear wiggles,” the post said. “His loss will be greatly felt by the staff and guests who loved him dearly.” ....

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Zoo welcomed a male rhinoceros, Stormy, and introduced him to the zoo and our female rhinos yesterday. Stormy arrived from North Carolina Zoo, and our Animal Care staff and all of our zoo crew are extremely excited to have him as a part of our zoo family. In the coming weeks, he will get to know his new home in The Savanna as he mingles with the female rhinos, Reina and West.
This new male Southern White Rhino will provide zoo guests another opportunity to appreciate near-threatened species at San Antonio Zoo. Stormy is a thirty-year-old white rhino and was brought to San Antonio Zoo as a part of the Association of Zoos & Aquarium’s Species Survival Plan in hopes he will breed with the zoo’s two females. At his previous home, Stormy sired four calves. ....

A week after a winter storm hit San Antonio, another storm has arrived a rhino named Stormy.
The southern white rhino came from the North Carolina Zoo and joins the San Antonio Zoo’s two other female rhinos.
The 30-year-old rhino and was brought to San Antonio as a part of the Association of Zoos & Aquarium’s Species Survival Plan.
The goal is to get Stormy to breed with the zoo’s two females.
The San Antonio Zoo has a history of breeding rhinos. ....
