To tide over the oxygen crisis, the
state transport department has made modifications and changes in 49 nitrogen tankers and made them usable to carry oxygen. They are planning a total of 90 nitrogen tankers to be converted.
State transport commissioner Avinash Dhakne said that his department was helping with the logistics and the conversion of the remaining tankers will happen soon. Besides this, the state has kept ready 183 tankers exclusively for oxygen transportation.
Dhakne said that 55 nitrogen tankers have been flushed and converted for use of oxygen transportation at various plants around Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. We want to convert a total of 90 tankers, he said. ....

Chicken and eggs are safe for consumption if cooked properly, says Maharashtra Animal Husbandry Department
The Maharashtra Animal Husbandry Department and the District administration are holding chicken and egg festivals in various districts so as to dispel myths of bird flu, said State Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Sachindra Pratap Singh.
Singh told
BusinessLine that the festivals are held so that false news about bird flu and poultry products consumption could be dispelled. An aggressive information campaign has been launched so that the income of 20 lakh poultry farmers does not get affected. Chicken and eggs are the cheapest sources of protein and if properly cooked they are safe for human consumption. ....

Maharashtra issues directives for seamless movement, marketing of poultry products

Maharashtra’s Animal Husbandry Commissioner has been asked by the Secretary of Animal Husbandry Department of the State to write to all the district collectors for maintaining a free movement and hassle-free selling of poultry products in the State.
Since the outbreak of bird flu on January 8 in Maharashtra, 5,987 birds including wild birds, carrion birds and even parrots and common crow have died. Of the total number of birds that died due to infection, 745 are poultry birds.
Maharashtra’s Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry Department, Anoop Kumar, citing his earlier communication with an official of the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, has asked Animal Husbandry Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh to ensure that there is a seamless marketing of poultry products from non-infected zones in the State. ....
