Federal Court Approves Major Nationwide Settlement for Post-9/11 Army Veterans
In a historic settlement, the U.S. Army will review the discharges of thousands of veterans affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), military sexual trauma (MST), or other behavioral health conditions, and implement administrative reforms for individuals who apply to have their discharge statuses upgraded in the future. These reforms follow a settlement reached in the nationwide class action lawsuit
Kennedy v. Whitley. A federal court granted final approval of the settlement on April 26, 2021. ....

A series of three teach-ins involving Law School faculty, staff, alumni, and affiliates examined the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted in the murder of George Floyd. The series presented an opportunity for the Yale community to reflect and come together in the wake of the verdict.
The teach-ins were held as webinars on April 22 & 23, 2021 for the Yale community and explored the wide-ranging legal and societal implications of the killing of Floyd, the subsequent legal proceedings, and the recent guilty verdicts. ....

Clinic Releases Report on Preserving Parental Rights for Incarcerated Parents
Connecticut Voices for Children (CT Voices) and the Criminal Justice Advocacy Clinic of the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization at Yale Law School (CJAC) released a report on March 12, 2021 that examines the collateral consequences of the Adoption and Safe Families Act on children with incarcerated parents.
The report, “Incarcerated Parents and Termination of Parental Rights in Connecticut: Recommendations for Reform,” examines the unintended impacts of the Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA), a federal law passed in 1997 that shifted the goal of child-protection policy from family preservation to adoption, and outlines recommendations to protect parental rights and promote the welfare of children with incarcerated parents. ....
