LOS ANGELES, May 14, 2021 /PRNewswire/  As Memorial Day and summer vacations approach, a Los Angeles nonprofit is making a unique effort to educate millions about the growing dangers of childhood drowning.

Dr. Akilah Weber draws $925K in donations, PAC money for 79th race

As the 79th Assembly race heads to a vote on Tuesday, Dr. Akilah Weber has far outpaced her opponents in fund-raising, amassing more than $380,000 in her candidate account, while a political committee supporting her has raised $545,000.
That $925,000 total is more than three times what her four opponents raised combined.
The only other candidate to clear six figures was the sole Republican, Marco Contreras, a local business owner. He raised about $146,000 in his candidate fund, mostly from medium to large donations from businesses and individuals.
Among the other three Democrats running, labor organizer Leticia Munguia raised just over $74,000. Teacher Shane Parmely brought in nearly $23,000, and restorative justice consultant Aeiramique Glass trailed with $6,320. ....

Bay Area Reporter :: California juvenile parole board member Riddle faces LGBTQ opposition


Phlunté Riddle, a member of California s juvenile parole board, is once again facing opposition from LGBTQ leaders who question the former Pasadena police officer s ability to adjudicate cases that come before her. Her detractors have called on Governor Gavin Newsom to rescind his nomination of Riddle to the oversight body.
Riddle has been serving on the Board of Juvenile Hearings since being named to it by Newsom in October 2019. The position, for which Riddle earns $159,068 a year, requires confirmation by the state Senate.
Due to the COVID pandemic, Riddle s confirmation hearing had to be delayed. The state Senate s Rules Committee is scheduled to take it up Wednesday, March 17, and Newsom is calling on lawmakers to confirm her. ....
