St. Lawrence County could see wave of evictions after April 30

CANTON – A member of St. Lawrence County’s Fair Housing Task Force asked county legislators to consider making a possible incoming wave of evictions as “a legislative agenda item.”
John Tenbusch, who is also a St. Lawrence County planner, discussed the matter with the board’s Operations Committee during their Monday, March 8 meeting.
Tenbusch said after speaking with Massena Justice Diana Dufresne from the Massena-based Justice and Law Center that there have been 260 eviction applications filed for the county in the last four months. He said that’s increased 75% in the last year. ....

St. Lawrence County officials want to explore O'burg's tax collection & foreclosure proposal

CANTON – St. Lawrence County officials and a legislator signaled willingness to explore a proposal from Ogdensburg where the county would take over tax collection and foreclosure from the city.
County Attorney Steve Button discussed the proposal with the board during their Monday, Feb. 22 Finance Committee meeting.
Button said if the county were to agree to the shift, it “could have a significant bearing on the county.”
“It has implications for Real Property, implications for the Treasurer’s Office, implications for my office,” he said.
Button added that the county could also choose “it can only assume a portion of it, or assume none of it.” ....
