A Hawke s Bay man has been sentenced to home detention after selling close to 100 illegally harvested crayfish on the black-market.
Quentin Teremoana Hawkins sold 97 recreationally caught crayfish from the Waimarama area between December 2018 and March 2019.
The 46-year-old pleaded guilty to 12 charges under the Fisheries Act and was sentenced at Hastings District Court on Thursday to four months and two weeks home detention. ....

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported Tuesday that 178,622 people attempted to illegally enter America s southern border in April, a two-decade high.
Officials said single adults comprised a majority of encounters.
CBP continues to see a large influx of illegal migration along the Southwest Border,” Acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller said in a statement.

A homeless Rotorua man who ordered more than $1300 worth of Hell Pizza using illegally obtained credit card information has avoided jail.
Gemini Rerekowhai Dixon, 33, was sentenced in Rotorua District Court yesterday after earlier
pleading guilty to a charge of accessing a pizza ordering website for dishonest purposes between May 30 and August 11 last year valued at $1377.80.
Dixon accessed the Telegram App and obtained credit card details of current and valid credit cards. He ordered food and beverages totalling $1377.80 to be sent to his emergency housing accommodation, where he and his now-pregnant partner lived. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered removal of 53 illegally-recruited employees of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and sought compliance report from the agency s head Wajid Zia within 15 days.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard a case pertaining to illegal recruitment made in the FIA. The court ordered removal of 53 employees who were appointment illegally in FIA and directed Wajid Zia, Director General of the Agency to submit compliance report within 15 days.
During hearing, the chief justice and recalled that as per court s direction, appointment and recruitment were to be made through public service commission in government departments. He said that after the court’s verdict, the employees knocked the doors of other courts. ....
