The Year of the coronaviruspandemic has not been easy on the men and women in khaki. They not only enforced the Covid-19 protocol in the Tricity, but also battled the virus.
Constable Suman Kumari, one of the first UT police officer deputed on the frontline, was also the first to get infected with this virus on May 12. Since then, almost 197 police personnel including one IPS officer, four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP), 37 Assistant Sub Inspectors (ASIs), five sub inspectors, four inspectors, 36 head constables (HCs) and 103 constables have contracted the coronavirus while performing their duty. ....

Observing that “courts in their endeavour to do justice need not function in a narrow straitjacket manner and need to have larger perspective of the human sufferings”, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has allowed a couple to get their foetus aborted subject to advice of expert medical professionals. ....

Usually, six toy trains including the Vistadome and holiday special run on Kalka-Shimla route. But this year, due to the Covid-19, only two tarins are plying on the route.

Vistadome, on the Kalka-Shimla route, which had witnessed merely 11 per cent occupancy on the first day after it resumed, witnessed 100 per cent occupancy a day before Christmas and ahead of New Year’s Eve, on Thursday.
With the festive spirit in full swing, a second special festival train from Shimla to Kalka is also operating on 100 per cent occupancy. ....
