Chandigarh Municipal Corporation's financial crisis deepens : The Tribune India


Chandigarh Municipal Corporation employees, including frontline workers, have not yet received the salary for April.
The MC’s financial crisis has deepened to an extent that the corporation now has to use its FDRs and other dedicated funds. A senior MC official said till now, they did not use FDRs as they would not have received enough interest.

‘Will use FDRs’
We have made arrangements for salaries from FDRs. There was some issue on Monday. The salaries will be credited on Tuesday.
The MC’s grant-in-aid for the 2021-22 fiscal has not yet been cleared by the UT Administration. It was in February that the MC had approved Rs1,641 Budget, but till now, it did not get even a single penny. ....

Devshali, 47, joined the party when he was 19. He has been the leader of Uttarakhand population.
Mahesh Inder Sidhu, when contacted, said, “It will be the party’s decision. Whoever party decides will be the mayor this year.”
Sidhu, 37, is a law graduate.
Sidhu and Dhillon both are Jat Sikhs and as Punjab will go to polls in early 2022, they are putting this fact before the high command in order to have an edge over others.
Sources said that these councillors are putting forth the fact that this time mayor’s face should be a new one and not someone who has already been the mayor. ....

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s waste collection in sectors 1 to 30 took off amid confusion and protests on day one. While some independent waste collectors protested and tried to stall the new MC twin-bin hoppers that were going around to spread awareness after the launch, in some areas waste collection couldn’t take place. ....

Beginning today, Chandigarh civic body to collect segregated waste from sectors 1-30


Residents said that all informal waste collectors should also be suitably integrated into the system.
“To bring in more quality and ease of management, the corporation should give preference to door-to-door waste collection activity to all willing RWAs/Gated Communities who volunteer to collect waste from door-to-door and ensure its segregation at source and enable pickup by the MC vehicles from the designated mutually decided collection points. Under this arrangement, individual households should not be charged user fee (which varies from Rs 50 to Rs 350 depending upon the area of the dwelling unit), but that RWAs/Gated Communities should be treated as a ‘bulk waste generator’ and charged lump sum user fee of Rs 2,000 per month as entry under Schedule I of the bylaws,” added Vashisht. ....
