Google is mandating staff worldwide to have COVID-19 vaccinations to return to the office, but the tech giant may struggle to enforce the policy in Australia.
Facebook has quickly followed suit, requiring its workers in the United States to be vaccinated for an office return, though the social network’s policy does not apply in Australia at this stage, with companies here more limited in what they can require employees to do.
Qantas boss Alan Joyce is considering making vaccination mandatory for aviation workers, while local tech firms like Atlassian and Zip are giving workers leave to encourage vaccination rather than making it compulsory. ....

Square Peg leads the way, with over $1.6 billion raised by Aussie VCs in 2020

Paul Bassat’s Square Peg Ventures has closed its $600 million fourth fund, bringing its total committed capital to a whopping $1.4 billion for investment into Aussie, and global, startups.
The funding also comes at the end at what has, perhaps surprisingly, been a huge year for the Australian VC space, with new funds available totalling at least $1.6 billion.
Headed up by Seek co-founder and Aussie tech royalty Paul Bassat, Square Peg made its first investment back in 2012. Since then, it’s backed unicorns Airwallex and Canva, as well as the likes of Deputy, Q-CTRL, Athena, and more recently, fast-growing medtech startup HealthMatch. ....
