Holiday Farm Fire rebuild: McKenzie students help community with sheds

After the Holiday Farm Fire burned more than 400 homes in the McKenzie Valley in September, there was little left behind to salvage for many people.
McKenzie High School students and community volunteers, wanting to help aid the area s recovery and rebuild, worked together this past weekend to build sheds for their neighbors who lost their homes and businesses during the wildfires.
The first thing a person needs after their land is clear is a shed to start rebuilding, said Lee Kounovsky, who works with the Lane Education Service District, 4J schools and Lane Community College teaching technical education, like construction. ....

EUGENE, Ore. – A lot of people are looking for jobs because of COVID-19.
One option for getting back on the road to employment could be behind the wheel of a semi-truck.
According to the Lane Workforce Partnership, truck drivers, heavy and tractor trailer operators and delivery drivers are one of the Top 15 largest occupations in Lane County.
Only two others pay more than the average salary of $50,000: registered nurses and general and operations managers. ....

EUGENE, Ore. – Lane Workforce Partnership is providing a look into how Lane County is expected to rebound after the financial impacts of the pandemic.
When the year began, the county’s economy was undergoing a strong and steady job expansion, the local workforce investment board said. From September 2012 through February 2020, 22,400 jobs were added and then COVID-19 started spreading in Oregon.
Nearly 25,000 jobs were cut between February and April. Unemployment went from a record low of 3.5% to a record high of 16%. By August, Lane County had recovered 65% of the jobs lost. ....
