BoD to seek supporters for suggestions to revitalise T2F July 27, 2021 In view of the mounting challenges faced by the Peace/Niche-T2F, a social platform founded by Sabeen Mahmud, its board of directors (BoD) has decided to reach out to friends and supporters for new ideas and suggestions for sustaining and reinvigorating the institution known for cultural production and democratic exchange. In a joint statement issued after the BoD meeting, the members expressed their desire to seek the help of T2F supporters to help rethink and re-strategise about the organisation’s viability. T2F was recently forced to temporarily close its activities. “We are taking this period of the temporary closure of physical activities during Covid to rethink and re-evaluate the visionary, financial, and administrative challenges facing the future of T2F by engaging in a process of multifaceted consultations in order to come up with viable solutions to these challenges,” read the ....

Sabeen’s T2F June 28, 2021 I was saddened to read an article, published in an international newspaper, which talked about the possible closure of The Second Floor, commonly known as T2F, in Karachi. T2F was owned by Sabeen Mahmud – a progressive Pakistani who was shot dead six years ago. She was on her way back home after she had successfully hosted a talk that was originally supposed to be held at a local university. In 2015, when Sabeen was shot, I was a student at the same university that had cancelled that event. Then, I realised that some spaces hold immense power. If you eliminate spaces of dissent, you will automatically kill the voices of dissent. Sabeen’s T2F provided a much-needed space to people to discuss dissent. ....
