Coronavirus: Council defends decision to keep schools open
A council has defended its decision to keep schools open until the end of term despite the area having the highest coronavirus rates in Wales.
Neath Port Talbot (NPT) Council says its schools will stay open until December 22 even though the region has record levels of Covid-19 infection rates.
A council spokesperson said community transmission is “the most significant driver” behind local infection rates and closing schools earlier than planned would likely risk a further increase in coronavirus cases.
In line with Welsh Government and Public Health Wales advice, NPT council has decided the end of term for all council-run schools will be December 22 (some schools will close on December 18 for teachers’ training). ....
