Newport mayor likely at fault for running out of fuel on flight that crash-landed, feds say

NEWPORT Newport Mayor Dean Sawyer’s 2019 plane crash was probably caused by his failure to verify the aircraft’s fuel levels prior to a whale-watching flight, federal investigators said, and he ran out of fuel, forcing an emergency landing that seriously injured one of two passengers.
An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board also found that Sawyer failed to renew his medical certification since 2006, had not undergone the mandatory two-year flight review for five or six years and did not subject his small aircraft to required annual inspection for four years. ....

SIGNIFICANCE OF PROJECT: The Neenan Company of Fort Collins, Colorado, served as lead architect and general contractor to remodel 40,000 square feet of an existing facility and build an 86,000-square-foot, three-story addition. The company used a collaborative, multi-disciplinary process known as “archistruction” to centralize the work of engineers, architects, designers, project managers, contractors, subcontractors and tradespeople. Neenan partnered with Corvallis construction firm Gerding Builders and more than 50 subcontractors and vendors to ensure hospital operations could continue without interruption during construction. Newport Community Celebrates Completion of Hospital

After several years of planning, research, designing and construction, the redevelopment of Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Oregon, is complete.
The final phases of this project were successfully completed this past winter during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with local, state and federal safety precautions in place. The hospital remained open throughout the entire process of construction and remodeling, so many community members have already had the opportunity to experience the new building. Because of the continued pandemic, the community celebration for this new facility and health care resource will be virtual. COVID-19 vaccine doses arrive in Lincoln City

As the COVID-19 vaccine is being shipped out across the United States to frontline healthcare workers, Samaritan Health Services has announced they have administered vaccinations to all five of its hospitals, including Samaritan North Lincoln in Lincoln City.
Samaritanâs first vaccination took place Dec. 18 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. Then on Dec. 21, Samaritan Health Services began giving the COVID-19 vaccine to frontline health care staff at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital (SNLH) in Lincoln City and Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital (SPCH) in Newport.
âWeâre at a point now where we can see light at the end of the tunnel,â said Doug Boysen, president and CEO of Samaritan. âI want to thank the entire Samaritan team for their efforts to be there for our patients and communities, and to continue on our mission during this pandemic.â ....
