BENNINGTON â A man whose body was found in the woods after crashing his truck on Route 279 earlier this month died from the cold, the medical examiner has found. Hans Heck, 35, died on Jan. 8 from âhypothermia due to low environmental temperatures,â according to the final copy of his death certificate. It says the military veteran died within minutes of exposure, and his death was an accident. National Weather Service records show that the temperature that day stayed below freezing. It saw a high of 26 degrees at 1:37 a.m. and a low of 15 degrees at 10:46 p.m. ....

BENNINGTON â At the request of police, a judge has thrown out a complaint against a man accused of threatening a group of girls at Lake Paran this spring. The dismissal this month of a disorderly conduct citation against David S. Jones was requested by the police officer who wrote the ticket, according to court records. The reason for the request remains unclear. The July 2 municipal citation stems from confrontations between Jones and a several teenagers of color that North Bennington village officials earlier described as âracist incidents.â The Bennington Police Department had said Jones, a town resident, was ticketed after he made a physically threatening remark during arguments with a group of four girls at the Lake Paran recreation area on June 4. The girls were 10-16 years old and so werenât identified, a police report shows. ....
