9 CSOs Receive Support For Disability Programme


 
The Ghana Somubi Dwumadie, a four-year programme that focuses on mental health, has awarded grants to nine civil society organisations (CSOs) to promote mental health and disability-inclusion in the country.
The CSOs include the Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD), Hope For Future Generation (HFFG), SANGTABA, Voice of People with Disability (Voice-Ghana), ABAK Foundation (ABAK), Centre for Active Learning and Integrated Development (CALID).
The rest are Centre for People’s Empowerment and Rights Initiatives (CPRI), Foundation for Community Empowerment Programme (FOCEP) and Global Action for Women Empowerment (GLOWA).
Out of the nine organisations, four will receive large grants of up to GH¢600,000 each year for three years, while the remaining five will receive small grants of up to GH¢600,000 each for 12 months. ....

PETALING JAYA: Every member of the community has a role to stop the infection of Covid-19 by being more alert of what goes on in the community, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Prime Minister said while the government does all it can to save lives and the economy, it also finds ways to empower the community to practise new norms during the pandemic.
Muhyiddin said this in his speech at the launching of the Covid-19 Green Community Zone Competition on Wednesday (April 28). ....

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), with its expertise in dealing with issues of poverty, implemented profiling for its welfare programme, with the aim of identifying the demographics of recipients to the right assistance is offered.
The Special Committee on Poverty Issues, under the National Council on Social Issues, has also increased its efforts by implementing the Poverty Action Plan to get the underprivileged out of the circle of poverty. ....

I recently visited rural areas of Bangladesh amid the Covid-19 pandemic and returned to Dhaka with a new understanding of the impact that Covid-19 is having on child marriage, a harmful practice that is a global challenge. The fundamental shift that I saw was that child marriage, which has typically been encouraged by struggling parents, is now being encouraged by struggling girls. This worrisome trend underscores a new burden of the pandemic on the poor.  ....

Activity Highlights
Awareness campaigns on COVID-19 prevention continued to take place by the child protection sector. Staff and volunteers conducted door-to-door visits across the Rohingya camps and host community, providing crucial information while keeping a safe distance. 191,686 people have been reached through 36,134 interpersonal communication sessions with key COVID-19 messages in November 2020. Among them, 56,607 were children (29,570 girls and 27,037 boys). The sector also distributed drawing materials among the children to make their time at home more engaging and enjoyable, particularly as they spend more time at home during these critical days. ....
