Chula Vista to hold active shooter presentation

The city of Chula Vista will host a free Active Shooter Preparedness and Response presentation.
The Chula Vista Police Department, the Chula Vista Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team and members from the University of California, San Diego Trauma Center will conduct the presentation. Over the past two years, the city has hosted four similar events.
The two-hour-plus event is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 19 in the Chula Vista City Council Chambers, located at 276 Fourth Ave.
“At this free event, participants will learn how to prepare for an active shooter situation,” read a statement from the city. “Because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared to deal with the situation.” ....

Search for Philip Kreycik Further Scaled Back

Following a five-day search, which involved more than a dozen agencies from across California and nearly 300 volunteers, Pleasanton Police Department (PPD) and its allied agencies are further scaling down operations to locate missing runner, Philip Kreycik, 37.
Marking the last fully operational day of an exhaustive search, today consisted of re-doubling efforts and adding new sections, which included the area in Sunol canyon where âcries for helpâ had been reported. Unfortunately, during todayâs search, a member of the search and rescue team suffered a minor injury.
At this time, no new evidence has been recovered.
âWe appreciate the Kreycik familyâs cooperation and patience during this difficult time, and we have the best resources here to help in both the search efforts and the investigation,â said Lieutenant Erik Silacci. âEvery day, search and rescue crews and countless volunteers have been working nonstop to find Philip, and we ....

Bootleg Fire burns 21 homes, 54 other structures

KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. The Bootleg Fire has burned more than 212,000 acres in Klamath County. As of Wednesday evening, the fire is 5% contained.
Gert Zoutendijk with the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office said 21 homes and 54 other structures have burned, and 2,000 homes or structures are threatened.
“We’re just waiting it out and waiting to hear what’s going on,” said Kim Bergey, who lives in an evacuation zone.
“Some people have already been told they have nothing left and then there’s others like me waiting to see if we still have a property,” she said. ....

Pleasanton Police Department, Allied Agencies Scale Back Search for Missing Runner

After intensive searching, the Pleasanton Police Department (PPD) and its allied agencies decided to scale back the search for missing runner, Philip Kreycik (37).
We re entering a different stage of the search effort right now, said PPD Investigations Lt. Erik Silacci. We re not ending it. We re just going to scale back and try to get a little more focused. It s day four, so the search and rescue folks out there are getting pretty worn out. They re mostly volunteers, so we need to reassess . for tomorrow.
In the past four days, more than a dozen agencies and approximately a hundred volunteers searched for Kreycik, who was last seen on Saturday, July 10, around 10:45 a.m. near Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park. ....
