Andrew Delke plea deal in Daniel Hambrick's murder: Community reacts


Delke encountered Hambrick in a North Nashville parking lot shortly after an attempted traffic stop.
Delke, who resigned from the department Thursday, had long maintained his innocence. He and his lawyers have argued he shot in self defense after he saw Hambrick, 25, holding a gun. Investigators found a gun near Hambrick s body, but surveillance footage preserved from the scene does not show Hambrick turning or aiming.
Murphy is sad and hurt. The plea deal, she said, changes nothing.
In the meantime, MNPD continues to kill people and there’s no accountability about that, Murphy said. 
The plea deal is an utter, total miscarriage of justice, said the Rev. Davie Tucker, Jr., the vice president of the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship. The historically Black social justice group of preachers and concerned citizens has repeatedly called for police reforms.  ....

“There is no tool in the history of policing that’s been used equitably and hasn’t disproportionately impacted people of color,” At-Large Council member Sharon Hurt said.
If the technology is deployed, it would come as Police Chief John Drake has pledged to phase out routine traffic stops. Independent reviews found Nashville traffic stops disproportionately targeted people of color but did not reduce crime rates.
Council member Bob Nash, a former Nashville police commander, said he trusts Drake to implement a program that would be acceptable to the community and council. 
This is a license plate reader. It doesn t know if you re white, or if you re black, or if you re red or yellow, he said. It doesn t know if you re rich or poor. It does know maybe if you re driving a stolen car. ....
