Students’ images, words celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of social justice
Back in 2006, Warner Norcross + Judd LLP reached out to Grand Rapids sixth graders, asking them to take part in a contest about what the words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. meant to them.
The firm asked the students to write an essay. The hope was to encourage students to become good writers, to think critically about Dr. King’s legacy and to translate those words into action within their schools or the larger community.

The Maine Photography Show (MPS), deadline for submissions is drawing near . like next Friday, Jan. 22.
And the categories are . Black and White, Color, Student, and the Special Category: Community Celebrations. This year’s Special Category should be an exciting, but also very challenging subject, considering the life changing period we are in right now.
Year-round and seasonal Maine residents only. enter up to three images across any of the categories. Entry fee is $10 per image. For students (18 years or younger) we offer a flat fee of $10 for the maximum of three images. ....

New Year's Eve fireworks tonight in North Conway

CONWAY â With the forecast calling for clear skies Thursday evening, the stage is set for saying goodbye (and good riddance!) to 2020 and hello to hopefully better times in 2021 as Community Celebrations presents its annual New Yearâs Eve fireworks in North Conwayâs Schouler Park at 9:30 p.m.
âI received lots of calls from people yesterday and theyâre all pretty excited about the fireworks,â said John Eastman, director of the town of Conwayâs Parks and Recreation Department, who annually oversees the fireworks display which is presented by Atlas Fireworks.
âWe expect the fireworks to last about 15 minutes. We ask people to wear masks and maintain safe social distancing,â said Eastman. ....
