TAPS will remain closed until further notice

When the AMS hired its Senior Management team for the 2021-22 year, one service was missing from the list of new hires: The AMS Pubs Service (TAPS).
“TAPS will remain closed until further notice,” Alex Samoyloff, AMS vice-president (operations), wrote in a statement to The Journal.
TAPS, which operates the Queen’s Pub and the Underground, was closed ahead of the 2020-21 year because of COVID-19 public health guidelines and University restrictions which prevented the John Deustch University Centre (JDUC) from opening to the public. TAPS is housed inside  the JDUC.
“TAPS reopening is contingent on COVID-19 safety protocols and the ability to break even. Likely, TAPS will remain closed until the new JDUC building is complete as we have not been given access to a suitable interim pub space during the renovation,” Samoyloff added. ....

SIC announces Equity Grant to compensate students

The Social Issues Commission (SIC) announced an Equity Grant open to student applicants until April 16.
According to AMS SIC social media, eligible students may apply to receive compensation for ongoing commitments to anti-oppression and social justice work.
Social Issues Commissioner Angela Sahi told The Journal that the SIC believes in fair compensation for all student labour, but limited funding resulted in a preference shown for applicants demonstrating financial need.
“The application offers a space to communicate personal circumstances that might be relevant for our consideration,” Sahi said.
“Our goal will be to offer [compensation to] as many students as possible for their work.” ....

The AMS restructured its internal operations and application process this year to provide more equitable and productive student opportunities.

AMS winter referendum statements

AMS Executive Candidates
Hello Queen s,
We are Team RTZ and we are vying for your vote to be elected as the Executive for the Alma Mater Society. Respectively, we have worked in various branches of student involvement since the beginning of our time at Queen’s. With our vast experience, we believe we have what it takes to significantly improve the Alma Mater Society.
We are honest, and we promise to speak candidly to you. Unlike many candidates in the past, our motives for running as Executive of the AMS stem from shared frustration over the inaction of the AMS this year. Over the past few years, student government at Queen’s has faced many challenges. Although we have many students to thank for leading us throughout the years, persistent failures and issues prevail within the Alma Mater Society.   ....
