Pamplin Media Group - Reader angered, saddened by OCHS equestrian coach's violations

Reader angered, saddened by OCHS equestrian coach s violations
gh School equestrian coach Angie Wacker s recent conviction of four ethics violations for a few reasons. I d heard whispers throughout the years about a bad-faith actor in the local 4-H horse community. Since I am not an equestrian, I had no idea at the time who it pertained to.
My interest was undeniably peaked when Pamplin Media Group subsequently printed the stories of the two former Oregon High School Equestrian Team (OHSET) athletes, Abigail Norton and Ashley Maestas, each describing different, but grueling, experiences on the OHSET team under this same coach (including major injuries). I contacted the Oregon Government Ethics Commission and requested a copy of the materials for myself, since they are all available to the public (with names of the minors redacted), and was absolutely stunned by what I read. I highly encourage anyone who is curious about this case to request a copy for yourself. ....

Pamplin Media Group - Diego Hernandez should resign from Reynolds School Board

Diego Hernandez should resign from Reynolds School Board
March 04 2021
On the heels of his resignation from the Oregon House of Representatives under a cloud of sexual harrassment complaints, Diego Hernandez should also resign from the Reynolds School Board.
Rep. Diego Hernandez avoided expulsion from the Oregon House in February by resigning in the aftermath of multiple violations of legislative rules against sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.
Now, Hernandez faces another decision, whether he should continue to serve in an elected capacity on the Reynolds School Board. That group has tentatively scheduled a discussion and vote on March 10 on a resolution where it might ask Hernandez to step down voluntarily. ....

Pamplin Media Group - Opinion: Clackamas County needs jail diversion, mental health beds

Michele Veenker: Sheriff s Levy shouldn t be considered an either/or proposal
On Feb. 25, Pamplin Media Group reported on the Clackamas County commissioners voting to support the Sheriff s Levy. In that, they quoted me. Although the quote was correct, because I was not allowed to finish my testimony, my quote was taken out of context and left the readers with the misconception that I was against the levy, when in fact I support it.
The reporter said I supported the idea of increasing bed capacity for mental illness but questioned whether the sheriff s office is the best agency to administer such services. ....

Pamplin Media Group - Opinion: Let's go all-in with in-school learning

February 23 2021
MacKensey Pulliam says women are once again losing ground in the workplace as they lose their jobs at a higher rate than men, or as they strive to accommodate employment and the needs of at-home education for their children.
It s been almost a year since we were notified that Oregon schools would be closed for two weeks in order to help flatten the curve. Eleven months later, schools are still closed, while kitchen tables and couches have been converted into wildly ineffective classrooms for increasingly frustrated children and their parents. Distance learning has had a devastating effect on our kids mental health and ability to learn. ....

Pamplin Media Group - Student: Coach Angie Wacker was 'my only bully in high school'

February 19 2021
Ashley Maestas says she was injured, evicted, kicked off of equestrian team after warning about horse
I cannot express the joy that overwhelmed me when I saw that first article about Oregon City High School equestrian coach Angie Wacker s ethics violations. It made me cry.
We have waited six long years, and this is the closest we ve been to showing the world this woman s true colors. Angie was my only bully in high school who took everything from us in a split second, and I ve seen her do it to dozens of other girls. After the events I m about to tell you about, I moved in with my father, stopped riding horses, quit my job due to harassment, finished my online school and then moved back to Idaho. ....
