New decorative lighting to be introduced along Burnham-On-Sea seafront

New decorative lighting to be introduced along Burnham seafront
New decorative lighting is set to return to Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront after town councillors gave the go-ahead at their latest meeting.
At a virtual meeting of March’s full council meeting, Burnham and Highbridge town councillors decided to proceed with the revamp of lighting.
“Decorative seafront lighting will be strung between the existing lampposts at a cost of £10,708,” it was resolved.
The proposals have been welcomed by tourism businesses along the seafront who say having attractions such as lighting make Burnham’s Esplanade more inviting.
The seafront used to have colourful decorative lighting attached to lamposts but many were damaged during a big storm in 2007. ....

Town theatre plans to start screening daytime films 'but won't compete with cinema'

Town theatre plans to start screening films ‘but won’t compete with cinema’
Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre hopes to start screening daytime films in its main hall when it re-opens later in the year – but it does not intend to compete with the town’s Ritz Cinema, councillors have been told this week.
During a virtual meeting of the Town Council’s Princess Management Committee this week, the theatre’s Business Development Officer, Beccy Armory, gave an update on the work that is underway to make The Princess Theatre ready to re-open when the Government lifts Covid restrictions.
The theatre in Princess Street has been shut since last March due to the pandemic and is currently undergoing a major refurbishment, funded by the EDF Community Impact Mitigation fund, which Beccy said is “making great progress”. ....

Seafront residents say council is 'ignoring' their calls to relocate proposed play area

Seafront residents in Burnham-On-Sea say they are being “ignored” by the Town Council over their calls for a proposed play area to be re-located further along the Esplanade – and they are now considering legal action.
As reported here, residents of Quantock Court say that while they support the idea of a new seafront play area, the tarmac area on the South Esplanade earmarked for the new facilities is “unsuitable” as it is ‘regularly used’ for various outdoor activities by families, runners, dog walkers, keep fit enthusiasts and cyclists, and is also overlooked by their flats.
They voiced their concerns at the latest virtual meeting of the council’s Town Improvements Committee, and handed in a petition to the Town Council calling for the proposed play area to be relocated further along the seafront to the lawns opposite Burnham Holiday Village. ....
