The campaign uses a consistent and instantly recognisable symbol, the Distance Aware Shield to help remind people to maintain a social distance.
Organisations and individuals can support the campaign by wearing a badge or displaying a poster with the Distance Aware Shield.
Launching the initiative Health Minister Robin Swann said, “The introduction of the Distance Aware Shield in Northern Ireland comes at a critical time for us.
 
 
“The progress we have achieved to date in our vaccination programme is very welcome but we cannot allow complacency to creep in.

Colette Rogers, Strategic Lead for Tobacco Control with the PHA, says, “During the COVID-19 pandemic our health is more important than ever and we are urging people to join with us and others throughout the world in supporting the World Health Organization’s (WHO) ‘Commit to Quit’ campaign.
“People can use No Smoking Month as an opportunity to kick-start their quit journey and improve their health.

The WHO recently launched ‘Commit to Quit’, a year-long global campaign.

Student Covid-19 funding is welcomed, but many still being excluded


The closures of schools, colleges and universities has meant a disrupted time for everyone.
For those studying in university it has been a bumpy road.
While transfer tests, GCSEs and A-Level exams were all cancelled and students had a fair idea of where they stood, many in university are frustrated at the perceived lack of assistance they have been getting from the Government.

But it seems that there is something to look forward to, as the Economy Minister, Diane Dodds, has announced further funding of more than £10m for the hardship fund, while all students studying in Northern Ireland will receive a £500 payment. ....

Derry residents angry over placement of criminals in city centre bail accommodation
The pandemic has led to an increase in demand for temporary accommodation for offenders

People living in Derry have expressed growing concern about the placement of criminals in temporary accommodation around the city.
The Derry News has learned that in one case a ‘notorious’ paedophile was placed in a street just doors away from young families.
Other violent offenders from different parts of Northern Ireland have been granted court bail to reside in B&Bs and hostels in the city.
Residents are ‘outraged’ and have questioned whether risk assessments were carried out prior to these placements. ....
