Snow is replacing scorching temperatures in the South Island with temperature drops of more than 20C.
South Islanders are swapping their sunhats for puffer jackets as fresh snow replaces scorching heat.
The extreme change comes after a sweltering start to the week that brought record-breaking temperatures.
General manager of operations at Mt Hutt Ski Area James Urquhart says he saw a massive drop in temperatures this week. 
We ve gone from 37C two days ago to 0C today.
The ski ki field woke to 10cms of fresh powder on Friday, right in the middle of summer.  ....

Sumner SLSC Surf Lifeguards
knew they were in for a busy day on December 19, 2020.
Christchurch’s temperatures were predicted to hit a
whopping 30 degrees, heavy surf crashed along the beach, and
the tide was set to be outgoing for most of the
day.
The beach had become increasingly dangerous in
the months leading up to mid-December, with large rips,
holes, currents and surf creating a problems for keen
beachgoers even on quieter days.
With this in mind,
Surf Lifeguards were well prepared. No less than 26 members ....

Seven-year-old found $5 note at New Zealand beach, auctioning it for $755


A seven-year-old boy has struck gold after finding a yellow soaking five dollar note floating in the ocean, which is now sitting at $755 at auction. 
Zayne Hinton was swimming at Sumner Beach in Christchurch, New Zealand, when he came across the note last Saturday. 
When his dad Brad Hinton suggested he put it up on auction website TradeMe as a laugh , he expected his son to pull in ten dollars.
