Appointing the public as protection officers among amendments to ATIPSOM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24: Appointing protection officers among members of the public is one of the amendments that will be made under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007 said Social Welfare Department (JKM) Community Service Order Division director Ahmad Hashim Selamat.
Without divulging further Ahmad Hashim said the plan to amend the act should be carried out last year but could not be implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic and would likely be done this year.
He said the amendment would also seek to improve the role of the Women, Family, and Community Development Minister and the operation of shelters for victims of human trafficking. ....

Health Ministry mulls electronic tagging for arrivals from abroad
Officials suggest alternative to quarantining in state-run hotels as they struggle to properly process all arrivals in bid to prevent entry of new COVID-19 variants into Israel

The Health Ministry suggested Monday that people who arrive in Israel from abroad will quarantine at home and be affixed an electronic tag instead of being sent to state-run quarantine hotels as part of the measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The director of the International Relations Division at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Asher Shalmon, said that health officials are currently looking into implementing the policy after the coronavirus cabinet voted to raise the number of daily entries to Israel from 600 to 2,000. ....
