pix) has been named as The World Games greatest athlete of all time after topping a poll conducted by the International World Games Association (IWGA).
Held between Jan 8-Feb 1 via The World Games website, the poll featured 24 of the finest athletes ever to appear at The World Games, a multi-sport event held every four years.
Nicol finished top with 318,943 votes from fans, over double that of her nearest competitor, Irish tug of war legend James Kehoe. With 1,204,637 votes cast in total, 26 per cent of the votes went to the Malaysian superstar.

Malaysia’s eight-time World Champion Nicol David has been named as The World Games greatest athlete of all time after topping a poll conducted by the International World Games Association (IWGA).
Held between January 8 – February 1 via The World Games website, the poll featured 24 of the finest athletes ever to appear at The World Games, a multi-sport event held every four years. David finished top with 318,943 votes from fans, over double that of her nearest competitor, Irish tug of war legend James Kehoe. With 1,204,637 votes cast, a whopping 26 per cent of the votes went to the Malaysian superstar.

The ten final candidates are now competing in the race to become The World Games Greatest Athlete of All Time. Several of the athletes have received a lot of attention in their home countries and in the sports world at large. Squash superstar Nicol David (MAS) is still leading with 227,208 votes, but Tug of War legend James Kehoe has now climbed up to second place with tremendous support from the Irish, and even from Ireland’s National Public Service Media RTE.
With less than a week of the competition remaining, Lifesaver Marcel Hassemeier (GER) and Muaythai Champion Sofia Olofsson (SWE) are fighting for third place.

The World Games have nominated the 37-year-old Penangite in their Greatest Athlete of All Time list as voting for the award started on Friday.
Nicol is the only Malaysian and Asian to be on the list, which has 24 past and present athletes from different sports nominated by their international federations.
Some of them include Swedish archer Morgan Lundin, the Brazilian women’s beach handball team, Russian gymnastics legend Evgeniya Kanaeva, Dutch Jiu-Jitsu exponent Rob Haans and Sweden’s muaythai world champion Sofia Olofsson.
Nicol won three gold medals and a bronze at The World Games between 2005 and 2017. She also boast eight World Championship titles and an unprecedented nine-year reign as world No. 1.
