El Javi - A Gypsy Journey and Adaptations

Two performances at 7pm and 9:30pm.
At 7:00 pm, Dazzle presents El Javi – A Gypsy Journey, a musical experience of original instrumental music.
At 9:30pm, El Javi  performs Adaptations, instrumental arrangements of popular cover songs. Special guests will join El Javi on stage.  This will be a night of duos.
North American guitarist, El Javi, defies music genres with his unbound exploration of instrumental music. The Denver based composer, producer and performer incorporates elements of flamenco, progressive rock, classical, folk and world music to shape his compositions. El Javi has been a supporting act for Ziggy Marley and today’s biggest voice of flamenco Diego El Cigala. He was a featured artist in Coors Light’s national campaign My Climb, My Music and participated in the International Guitar Festival in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. ....

cutNscratch: Virtual guitar fest at Radford; Blue Ridge JAM on PBS; Festival in the Park dates

Radford University’s 20th International Guitar Festival is back on the entertainment schedule, but online.
The annual event, canceled last year due to COVID-19, can be found at radford.edu/guitarfest. It again features its typically high octane lineup, with Jorge Caballero — a superstar on the instrument — atop the bill.
Guitar duo Khytar 12.6., Mesut Ozgen with violinist Cihat Askin, Thomas Viloteau, and Las Flamencas (featuring a vocalist and a flamenco dancer) round out the bill. You may watch right now, for free, as usual.
Peruvian guitarist Cabellero is both the youngest musician and the only guitarist to win the Naumburg International Competition Award, which is comparable to a Pulitzer Prize for musicians, according to the festival website. That prize is among many, with critical praise coming from all corners. ....

cutNscratch: Radford grad student sees success in international competitions

A Radford University classical guitar student has had a run of international success. In this COVID-19 era, of course, he did it without leaving Southwest Virginia.
Octávio Deluchi finished with 10 other performers atop the 2020 Ibla Grand Prize competition list. The New York-based IBLA Foundation organizes the event, which for about three decades has been a weeklong, summertime event in southern Italy for top-shelf musicians of all ages, locations and instruments. This year, the Ibla Grand Prize was relegated to the digital world, with winners announced Dec. 31.
The Outstanding Musician recognition, shared equally among the contestants, will eventually lead to a tour in Asia and the United States, at such venues as New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Tokyo, Japan’s Kioi Hall, Deluchi wrote in an email last week. ....
