The number of Covid-19 cases in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region crossed 6,798,949 on 5 April, according to Worldometers data collated by MEED.
Countries in the GCC account for 23.5 per cent (1,598,537) of all regional infections, while Iran’s confirmed 1,945,964 cases make up 28.6 per cent of the Mena total.
Since 22 March, 499,050 new Covid-19 cases have been detected in 17 Mena countries tracked by MEED.
Some GCC countries are continuing to resume select socioeconomic activities, while some parts of the region are grappling with new spikes in case numbers. ....

Over 139,000 people vaccinated in Oman | Times of Oman

Muscat: More than 139,000 people in Oman have been vaccinated by the Pfizer-BioNtech and Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines till last Thursday April 1, 2021.
A statement issued online by Oman News Agency, ( ONA ), said: ”The first batch of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Coronavirus vaccine arrived at Muscat International Airport on Saturday evening, within the framework of the contract concluded between the Sultanate and the International Vaccine Federation.”
The statement confirmed that a total of 139,522 people were vaccinated in the Sultanate, as of last Thursday, with the Pfizer-BioNtech and Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines.
 “It is reported that the Sultanate has contracted with the International Vaccine Federation to obtain one million doses that target 10 per cent of the population,” the statement added. ....

COVID-19: First batch of AstraZeneca vaccine arrives in Oman


Muscat: Oman yesterday received its first batch of Astra Zeneca coronavirus vaccine ordered through International Vaccine Federation.
The news of the batch of vaccine that arrived at Muscat International Airport yesterday evening was met with cheer from residents and citizens who have been waiting for their shots for some time now.
Though the number of vaccines in this consignment is not mentioned, it is hoped that it will help meet the current urgent requirement to an extent.
As of last Thursday, the number of people vaccinated in Oman stood at 139522. It is reported that the Sultanate has agreed with the International Vaccine Federation to obtain one million doses of vaccine. ....

Muscat: The Sultanate has so far received 27,000 doses of the booked 370,000 Pfizer coronavirus vaccines, said Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Sa eedi, Minister of Health, on Thursday. 
The Sultanate has reserved more than a million doses of the vaccine through the International Vaccine Federation, and we hope that a part of it will be allocated in the future to the private sector for those wishing to travel and other groups, but that will be done after covering the basic groups.
Altogether, 22,000 vials have been distributed and the total number of vaccinated people in the Sultanate has reached 22,749, added the Minister of Health. ....
