The event is anticipated to host as many as 50 superyachts, ranging from 24 to 137-metres, as well as charter brokers from all over the world and an array of exhibits, highlighting services available to the charter industry. On the decision to host an event aimed at the charter sector, specifically, IYBA’s President Bob Saxon says, “While the need for certain large scale superyacht trade shows remains, we believe that an opportunity exists to begin to reset the boat show model and annual calendar with more targeted events like this.” ....

iStock Fraud charges were recently unsealed in a 21-page indictment against two former Illinois boat dealership employees in a case that marine industry experts say is rare, but that offers an opportunity for boat buyers to think about how to choose a reputable broker or dealer. Jeffrey D. Gibbs and Kara M. Wilkey, both former employees of Clinton Marine II, which sold used and new boats, are facing decades in prison on a combined 18 counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Central Illinois, the two obtained loans on fictitious boats, took out loans using forged signatures, sold boats without paying off the customer’s loan or remitting payment, and collected payments for taxes, titles and fees without actually paying for those expenses. NASSAU, BAHAMAS The Bahamas Charter Yacht Show (BCYS) Committee yesterday announced that the 2021 Bahamas Charter Yacht Show scheduled for late February 2021 has been postponed until 2022. The 2021 Bahamas Charter Yacht Show’s chairman, Joe Dargavage, of Romora Bay Resort and Marina, said: “This was an extremely difficult decision, and our charter show board thought long and hard before deciding what we should do. “The fact that we had almost all brokers having to come in internationally was a huge part of the decision-making process. “Once the decision was made, Rybovich (West Palm Beach, Florida) proposed that we invite the yachts to their facility and showcase them under a controlled environment.
