Fulfill, protect, respect women's human rights – Supreme Court – Manila Bulletin

Women’s human rights must be fulfilled, protected and respected.
This was stressed by the Supreme Court (SC) in its decision that cited the agreement ratified by 189 countries on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the provisions of the 1987 Philippine Constitution and the law.
The SC said CEDAW “acknowledges the need to guarantee the basic human rights and fundamental freedoms of women through the adoption in the political, social, economic, and cultural fields, of appropriate measures, including legislation, to ensure their full development and advancement.”
“Consistent thereto, no less than the fundamental law of the land (under Article XIII, Section 14) imposes on the State the duty to protect working women by providing safe and healthful working conditions, as well as facilities and opportunities to enhance their welfare, and enable them to realize their full potential in the service of the nation,” ....

The purge continues: Two more MMDA traffic enforcers sacked for extortion

This, as MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos terminated from service of traffic enforcers Mark James Ayatin and Jayson Salibio, both job order personnel assigned at C5 Special Traffic Zone.
Reports said the two were caught on video last week in their attempt to extort money from motorist Christ Edward Lumagui. Lumagui asked for a ticket for his supposed traffic violation but was made to pay P300 in grease money instead.
“These two traffic enforcers are now terminated. The MMDA does not and will never condone any wrongdoing of our personnel,” Abalos said in a statement Sunday, May 16. ....

RTWPB-Western Visayas to act on wage determination

THE Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Western Visayas will initiate action on wage determination by motu proprio, one of its members said.
Wennie Sancho, labor representative to the RTWPB-Western Visayas, said the move is backed by a resolution unanimously approved by the Board during its regular meeting on April 23.
Sancho said it must be recalled that in their last April 8 meeting, the two management representatives, Luis Estrella and Reynaldo Ambao, manifested their disapproval of the manifestation of the labor sector for a P20 to P25 per day Pandemic Emergency Relief Allowance (Pera) as an immediate economic relief amid the pandemic. ....
