Presbyterian Mission Agency Poem, essay, liturgy garner top honors from Presbyterian Writers Guild

LOUISVILLE — The Presbyterian Writers Guild has selected three winners from among 20 entries in its first-ever Ash Wednesday writing contest.
Ruth Linnea Whitney won the grand prize, $100, for her poem, “Ash Season.” Whitney is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Port Townsend, Washington. Jane Kurtz, winner of the 2020 David Steele Distinguished Writer Award; and Caroline Kurtz, winner of the Best First Book Award for the best first book by a Presbyterian author written during 2018-2019, judged both the poetry and liturgy entries.

A Texas college student on his way home for Christmas break went missing last week after crashing his car on a secluded road, authorities said.

A Texas college student on his way home for Christmas break went missing last week after crashing his car on a secluded road, authorities said.
Jason Landry, 21, was on his way home to Missouri City from Texas State University on Dec. 14 when he disappeared after having a one-car crash on a backroad in Caldwell County, Texas EquuSearch said in a news release.
Troopers found Landry’s vehicle in the remote area near the city of Luling, about 30 minutes from the university’s campus in San Marcos, but there was no sign of the college student, FOX7 Austin reported. Troopers found the his cellphone and wallet in and around the car along with other personal items. ....

Prayer vigil held tonight for missing 21-year-old Jason Landry from Missouri City


MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) Family and friends of a missing Texas State student gathered at his family s church in Missouri City Sunday to pray for a safe return.
His father, Kent Landry, spoke before a crowd of at least 100 people, expressing concern and worry over his son s disappearance.
I pray that I will have the opportunity to hug my son and to tell him I love him again. God, I hope it s before Christmas, Kent told the crowd.
