Two adjudicators set for Weyburn Rotary Music Festival


Janis began teaching in 1982 and joined the faculty at the Conservatory of Performing Arts, University of Regina in 1990. For several years she was Head of the Piano Department. In addition, she sat on the Scholarship Committee and for a time was interim assistant co-ordinator, served on the Faculty Advisory Committee, and produced the “Tune into the Conservatory” TV series.
Janis has served on the executive of the Regina Musical Club, Art School Sask and on the Board for OSAC. She is a member-at-large of the Sask. Registered Music Teachers’ Association. She has judged competitions for Regina Musical Club, sat on the OSAC selection committee, and has also been a member of the Music Selection Committee for the Provincial Syllabus of the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association. ....

Performances live-streamed to a wide audience


With more than 200 entries, the 2021 Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival’s program is shaping into place. Yes, there are many COVID safety restrictions to navigate, but there are many positives to celebrate as well.
Though there will not an in-person audience for performers, live streaming will allow family and friends from far and wide to view performances. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the professional stage and concert grand piano the Dekker Centre offers. Participants will follow strict protocols, wearing masks whenever they enter or exit the performance space. Vocalists and those playing woodwind-type instruments will be allowed to remove masks while performing with the use of a plexiglass barrier for added safety. ....

Working around the pandemic to celebrate music


One constant during a pandemic is change. The Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival is committed to accommodating live performances at the Dekker Centre for the 2021 event. With continued restrictions for public safety, appropriate adaptations are being created.
Current guidelines from the SHA state that no audience members will be allowed in the festival venue. That means a “live” festival with the adjudicator in the room, along with participants, teachers, volunteers, videographer and venue staff. The performances will be live streamed for all others interested to see and hear.

SHA is calling this a “virtual” festival in keeping with government guidelines for sports and activities. Singers and wind instrumentalists are permitted to perform without a mask so long as a mask is worn while entering and exiting the stage, removing it to perform. There will be plexiglass barriers in place in front of the performers ....
