Rapper follows through with $5,000 scholarship to Saginaw’s Arthur Hill High School

SAGINAW, MI - Las Vegas-based rapper Corey “Corey Dollaz” Davis returned to Michigan this week to finalize a $5,000 scholarship donation to Arthur Hill High School he announced on social media last month.
Saginaw Public Schools Superintendent Ramont Roberts confirmed Davis’ donation has reached the district, after a period of miscommunication that led to the district releasing a statement last Wednesday, March 3, that the money had not reached them.
“We are fortunate that Mr. Davis has the foresight and compassion for his community that enabled a vision for giving back,” Roberts said in a statement. “Students at Arthur Hill High School will benefit from the generosity of Mr. Davis presently and hopefully for years to come. Mr. Davis’ act is a shining example of “Keeping Kids First” and the embodiment of Saginaw Public Sch ....

But for teachers across Michigan, it’s also for connecting with students, inspiring future educators, and venting about the struggles of working through a pandemic.
Dan Shutes, a Paw Paw fifth-grade teacher, got his TikTok account at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic after hearing his middle school students talk endlessly about the dances and silly side of the app.
Since first logging on, Shutes has made hundreds of videos that touch on everything from student mental health to celebrating the end of another week of teaching during a pandemic. They’ve gotten more than five million likes. ....
