For the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed 2013 feature film debut, Jug Face, Nashville-based horror writer-director Chad Crawford Kinkle followed the sage advice to write what you know. And what he knew ended up having an immediate connection to his family and friends. In this audio interview with OnlineAthens and Banner-Herald reporter Andrew Shearer, Kinkle explained his decision to cast his older sister, Stephanie, and other special needs adults in a horror movie about a kind woman (Katie Groshong) who takes a job at a care facility as a means of escaping a dangerous cult. Jug Face back when it first came out, and it’s been a while since then. It’s nice to see a follow-up. Chad: Yeah, it’s been a little too long. But that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess. So, the genesis of was partly a dream your mother had? Chad: I’d thought of the idea beforehand. I’ve always thought about doing a project with my sister, ever since I was in film school in the 90s. Nothing ever really felt right, because I didn’t want to do a documentary about her. While she is special, her life hasn’t had these events in it that would warrant some kind of long narrative piece. But it’s always been in the back of my mind, and I’ve just never had the right opportunity. ....
