Protests disrupt Des Moines City Council's return to in-person meeting


The first Des Moines City Council meeting in person in over 15 months adjourned with the council voting on dozens of agenda items over a booming crowd protesting throughout the majority of the meeting.
The council recessed until 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and planned to hold the rest of the meeting virtually, according to a city spokesperson.
The return attracted about 100 people to City Hall, some gathering outside an hour before the meeting s start to speak out about the unhoused community, to call on city leaders to defund the Des Moines Police Department and to share concerns over new security measures in place for the council s meetings. ....
