College Of The Canyons Announces Student Hiring Spree

This fall, College of the Canyons will be doing more than welcoming students back into classrooms, it will also be putting a lot of them on payroll.
In preparation for the college’s expansion of on-campus instruction and activities, the Santa Clarita Community College District has allocated over $500,000 of its Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund package for the 2021-22 academic year to fund student jobs at the Valencia and Canyon Country campuses.
“We are very excited to provide a wide variety of paid employment opportunities for our students,” said Jasmine Ruys, vice president of student services at the college. “After having spent more than a year in varying degrees of social isolation, students can create a personal connection to the campus while also gaining valuable hands-on experience and skills.” ....

COC Foundation Reaches Agreement In Measure E Late Paperwork Case
In response to an unmet financial Measure E paperwork filing date in 2016, Santa Clarita’s College of the Canyons Foundation has reached an agreement with the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) to pay a fine of $5,500 to the General Fund of the State of California.
In June 2016, a ballot containing proposed general obligation bonds passed, providing $230 million in funds to the Santa Clarita Community College District for the purpose of expanding College of the Canyons. In preparation for this vote, the College of the Canyons Foundation (the “Foundation”) contributed to the campaign for this proposal. This campaign was commonly known as “Yes on Measure E”. ....

The college district received the best rating possible in an independent audit of its general obligation bond expenditures.
The Santa Clarita Community College District’s Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee accepted the audit results, which showed that for the 13th year in a row, the district has properly accounted for all bond expenditures and expended them in accordance with the projects approved by voters in Measure E ballot measure.
Eide Bailly LLP conducted both the financial and performance audit, covering the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2020 and issued the District an unmodified opinion – the best rating possible – noting no adjustments, audit findings, questioned costs or instances of bond noncompliance. ....
