Santee Mayor John Minto wants Supervisor Nathan Fletcher to apologize and resign from his position after using hateful language when addressing those participating in those recall efforts. Mayor Minto sent a letter to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Thursday, directed to Chair Supervisor Nathan Fletcher regarding recent comments over Governor Gavin Newsom recall efforts, highlighting words used: Extremists, Conspiracy, Theorists, Neo-Nazis, Right Wing-Militia Groups and White Supremacists. ....
SANTEE The Santee City Council has sent a letter to the county Board of Supervisors criticizing Supervisor Nathan Fletcher for what they characterize as his “hateful rhetoric” in describing some of the backers of the recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom. They have asked that Fletcher, a Democrat who represents District 4, issue a public apology and step down as board chairman. The council, made up of five registered Republicans, voted 4-0, with Councilman Ronn Hall abstaining, to send the letter. The letter, approved Wednesday, admonishes Fletcher for comments he made during a Jan. 12 Zoom conference call to Democratic Party supporters in California. During the video, Fletcher spoke generally about the need to safeguard democracy, saying that some of the extremist groups involved in the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol are involved in the recall effort. ....

Minto and the City Council recently voted to ask Supervisor Nathan Fletcher to step down as Chair Supervisor and apologize for “divisive language” he used about some of those participating in the Governor Gavin Newsom recall effort. The letter they sent to the San Diego County Board of Supervisor is below: Dear Honorable Board of Supervisors: The Santee City Council condemns the divisive language used by San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher when he called those participating in the Governor Gavin Newsom recall effort “Extremists”, “Conspiracy Theorists”, “Neo-Nazis”, “Right Wing Militia Groups”, and “White Supremacists”. There are few worse accusations than calling someone a Neo-Nazi or White Supremacist. Hate has no place in Santee. Hateful rhetoric has no room in political discourse and is particularly bad when it comes from the Chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. ....
